The Private Life of a Masterpiece is a documentary series produced by the BBC which tells the stories behind great works of art reaching from the Renaissance to modern art, how they were created, who created them, what their motives were and what these works of art may symbolise and mean.
Michelangelo's David might be the most recognisable statue in the world, being used not only for artistic purposes but also being a star in the commercial world. Yet even though he survived all these years, with his fame ever growing, we still do not really know much about him. How was he made? Why is he naked? What is he staring at? Why was he made?
